Prevention of odontogenic infections in diabetic patients [Prevención de las infecciones odontogénicas en pacientes diabéticos]

Objective: To analyse the presence of gingivitis in pregnant women in their first and second trimesters, aged 20 to 35, treated at the Asdrúbal de la Torre Hospital, Cotacachi, from May 2021 to May 2024. Method: quantitative, cross-sectional and descriptive study. The population included 90 pregnant women, with a sample of 68 patients who met the inclusion criteria. Inductive-deductive and analytical-synthetic methods were applied. Results: 86.10% presented with acute gingivitis and 13.9% with chronic gingivitis. The year 2023 recorded the highest prevalence (38.2%). 67.10% of cases occurred in the first trimester and 32.9% in the second trimester. The predominant age group was 20-23 years (42.1% in 2024). According to ethnicity, mestizos (41 cases) and indigenous people (36 cases) predominated. The overall prevalence of gingivitis was 82.3%, with 17.70% presenting gingival recession.
