Abstract

Objective: to analyse the risk factors associated with metabolic syndrome in professional drivers. Method: A systematic review was carried out, following the guidelines established by the PRISMA declaration. 15 studies published in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science were selected. Conclusion: Among the main risks are sedentary lifestyle, long working hours, and shift work, which contribute significantly to the development of insulin resistance, obesity, and cardiovascular disease, the prevalence of obstructive sleep apnoea in this occupational group is closely linked to metabolic syndrome, which aggravates health conditions. The lack of awareness of undiagnosed diabetes and other metabolic risk factors underlines the need to implement early detection programmes and preventive intervention strategies tailored to the particularities of professional drivers.
