Efecto de las férulas oclusales y su relación con síntomas de disfunción temporomandibular. Revisión sistemática [Effect of Occlusal Splints and Their Relationship with Temporomandibular Dysfunction Symptoms. Systematic Review]

Objetivo: Evaluar el efecto de las férulas oclusales en la articulación temporomandibular (ATM) y su relación con los síntomas de disfunción temporomandibular (DTM). Método: Se llevó a cabo una revisión sistemática de la bibliografía en bases de datos como PubMed, Scopus, Lilacs, la Biblioteca Cochrane, ProQuest, Epistemonikos, Google Academic, entre otras. Al final, se examinaron 20 artículos que satisfacían los criterios de selección. Resultados y conclusión: De los 159 estudios detectados, 70 fueron seleccionados de manera preseleccionada y, después de una evaluación minuciosa, se incorporaron 20 artículos en la revisión sistemática. La aplicación de férulas oclusales presenta posibles ventajas en el tratamiento de la DTM, sin embargo, los estudios sugieren que su eficacia fluctúa dependiendo del caso. Resalta la importancia de adaptar el tratamiento a cada individuo y de seguir con investigaciones de alta calidad para consolidar la evidencia clínica.
