Abstract

Objective: to analyse the antibacterial effect of an infusion of Camellia Sinensis used as mouthwash on bacterial plaque. Method: systematic review. Results and Conclusion: The use of Camellia sinensis as a mouthwash represents a natural and effective alternative for plaque control and oral health improvement, supported by its antimicrobial and antioxidant properties and its safety profile when used in adequate concentrations. The reviewed studies show its comparable ability to chlorhexidine against oral bacteria such as Streptococcus mutans, as well as additional benefits in gingival health.
