Objective: to analyse bacterial plaque in patients undergoing orthodontic treatment. Method: Systematic review of 15 articles. Results and Conclusion: Bacterial plaque accumulation in patients undergoing orthodontic treatment represents a significant challenge due to conditions that favour the development of biofilms in hard-to-reach areas. Factors such as dental crowding, poor oral hygiene and diet directly influence plaque composition and pathogenicity, increasing the risk of caries, gingivitis and systemic complications.
