Abstract

Objective: to analyse the relationship between malocclusion and alcohol and drug abuse. Method: systematic review. Results and Conclusion: The relationship between malocclusion and alcohol and drug abuse lies in the multifactorial impact of these substances on development and oral health, particularly when consumption occurs prenatally or chronically. Prenatal alcohol use, as in the case of foetal alcohol syndrome, significantly alters craniofacial development, leading to malocclusions and other orofacial manifestations. Similarly, the use of substances such as cannabis, electronic cigarettes and illicit drugs aggravates oral conditions by generating adverse effects on the structure and function of oral tissues.
