Maternal depression during adolescent pregnancy: Implications for maternal and foetal health [Depresión materna durante el embarazo adolescente: Consecuencias en la salud materna y fetal]

Objective: to analyse maternal depression during adolescent pregnancy: Consequences on maternal and fetal health. Method: A systematic review was conducted, following the guidelines established by the PRISMA statement, 15 studies published in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science were selected. Conclusion: The evidence reviewed highlights the efficacy of interventions such as brief interpersonal therapy and internet-based cognitive behavioural therapy to address this problem, together with emerging options such as transcranial magnetic stimulation, which offer safe and adapted solutions. Integrating accurate diagnostic tools and social support strategies could not only mitigate the impact of depression during pregnancy, but also significantly improve perinatal outcomes and long-term maternal-fetal wellbeing.
