Objective: to analyse the importance of dental prophylaxis in children based on a review of the literature. Method: a systematic review was applied, the population was refined to 15 scientific articles. Results and Conclusion: Dental prophylaxis in children is essential to establish a solid foundation of oral health that lasts throughout life, preventing oral diseases such as caries and gingivitis, which can affect both the quality of life and the overall development of the paediatric patient. In children with specific medical or behavioural conditions, such as bruxism or autism spectrum disorder, it is essential to personalise preventive strategies to optimise both the effectiveness of treatment and the patient's experience.
